Human-centred

Hi, I’m Steve Barnett.

I’m a human-centred front-end developer and user experience designer. I help software teams have happier customers by making more user-friendly software.

I design and develop sites and apps in a future-friendly way: with an eye towards inclusive design and accessibility. That means a site that everyone can use, regardless of their device, the network they’re on, or any disabilities they might have.

When working with people, especially on accessibility things, I try my best to: be empathetic; make it simple; be positive.

  • The kinds of work I enjoy the most are: supporting (like consulting or reviewing), training, writing, presenting, and coding.
  • My priority is making things better for the humans using them, rather than busy work or “number go up” work.
  • I strongly prefer working on things with a local (Aotearoa New Zealand) flavour.
